A Hike, Sheep Herding, & Pizza with friends

We went on a hike today with our friends from the ward, the Morgans. I love Boise for the tiny ward boundaries. Everyone lives within about a mile radius of us! We had the Morgans and another couple from the ward over for ice cream a few months back and have been wanting to do something together ever since. They enjoy the foothills as well, so we did a hike together. We got to the foothills around 10:30 and it was gorgeous, and great hiking weather in the high 60s or so.
These couple pictures taken just along the side of the trail.
Lots of trail pictures below. You could see for miles!

Trying to get a close-up of the flowers:

Violet ones

And white and yellow

This one you can see the flowers a bit better:
Bikers whizzing by... On your left!

Purple flowers up the side of the hill-kind of hard to see:

That is sheep in the corner. We were on our hike and came across this sheep herding demonstration. There was a person whistling, then the border collie would herd the sheep based on the whistles. Or something like that... we only caught the last few minutes before it was over. It was cool, though!

The sheep herded into their pen:

Us with the sheep! The sign informed us that lamb only contains 175 calories per 3 ounce serving, which meets the FDA standards for "lean meat". Wouldn't have guessed that, because I have made lamb gyros at home, and they seemed quite a bit more oily than other meats. BUT it sure is delicious.

More of the sheep:

We were basically famished. So, we went to the Flying Pie Pizzaria. Tyler had been wanting to try a good local pizza place, and the Morgans suggested it.
It turns out that this place was featured on an episode of Man vs. Food! The host called it his "pizza home away from home" on the signed menu below.
First came the free and fresh breadsticks! nom nom nom..

When the waiter came, we got him to take a picture. He was a bit concerned that the flash washed out our faces, but I told him he did a great job :)

They have a horn by the door that you can honk, then the crew whoops, hollers, and cheers for you. It was fun!

So, that was our day of fun. Now I am chilling out until I get the energy for a shopping trip! :)

5k, Bowling & Dinner with the Sebastian Ohana

Saturday, June 7, 2014. The day started out with a 5k at 8am in Meridian. It was a BYU Alumni Boise chapter sponsored event. Paul & Jessa invited us. It was free. I did awful! All the kids beat me. Parents with strollers beat me (including Paul and Jessa) but hey I gave it my best shot! They weren't keeping time, but I think I was around 40 minutes. Tyler was more like 25. Even out of practice, he smashes by best records. Oh well! It was fun to do, especially because 5ks are usually around $30 per person, it was fun to do something spontaneous that didn't cost a thing! (And I'm not sure I'd pay $30 to endure such fatigue :))

TyTy is a super lucky dude! He won 2 drawings from This is Boise's Facebook page. This one was for 3 games of bowling for 4 and a gift certificate to the Barrelhouse Brewery. So we invited Paul, Jessica & company aka the Sebastian Ohana. This is how excited Tyler was to go bowling:

After bowling, we went to the park. It was a beautiful day outside. Ellie had a blast running around and exploring!

Ellie's creations:

Mismatching plates. Never seen this at a restaurant before- that I can recall. But it fit with their modern-cowboy vibe.

Ellie wrote her name. Twice! Not too shabby for a 3.5 year old :)

The waitress took our photo. I took a close up of all the food, but it didn't save for some reason. But you get the idea. Complete with mason jars for drinking. Tyler could barely fit the buffalo burger in his mouth! He said it was scrumptious.

Ellie gave TyTy many much hugs.

I like this one!

We went back to Paul & Jessa's house and Ellie showed us her fairy garden. How cute. It is complete with a house, etc.

Cuddling with Funcle after a long day of adventures!

Jessa then made Tyler's favorite: home-made-from-scratch-peach cobbler. Fresh peaches from the church's local orchard too. And vanilla bean Tillamook ice cream. I usually don't eat the ice cream (160 calories for a half cup- need I say more?) but this time I had a little bit with it, and it was super delicious. All in moderation, right? We sure will miss the Sebastian Ohana when we don't get to see them all the time!
